SPRING EVENING CLASSES 2024

Adult Education Evening Classes facilitated in Ormonde College and Kilkenny City Vocational School. All of the courses detailed below are 9-week courses beginning the week starting Monday 22nd January 2024

MONDAY EVENING CLASSES
Spanish for Beginners
7-9pm €90
Learn a new language in a relaxed atmosphere. This course will provide you with the skills to understand and use everyday expressions and basic phrases, the classes involve a combination of listening, reading, and writing with the main focus on conversational Spanish. Topics include: myself, routine, friends and future plans will be covered.

Introduction to Digital Photography
7-9pm €90 *SRL Camera required*
This course is suited for anyone who has a SRL camera and wishes to know more about the features of the camera with tips for taking good photographs. Learn about composition, exposure and improve your portraits, landscapes, still life photographs.
Sewing for Dressmaking (not suitable for beginners)
7-9pm €120 *sewing machine required*
This course is suitable for those who have previously completed the Sewing for Beginners course or are proficient in using their sewing machine. The course will cover taking accurate body measurements, reading, understanding and working with a commercial dressmaking pattern. Learners will learn through using 1 of 3 patterns, shift dress, a line skirt or pyjama bottoms/loose elasticated waist trousers.
Ballroom and Latin Social Dancing
7-8:30pm €70
An introduction to Ballroom and Latin dance in an enjoyable atmosphere. This new course is a great opportunity to make new friends, have a fun workout and improve your dancing skills in a relaxed environment.
TUESDAY EVENING CLASSES
Ceramics
7-9pm €90 + €25 material costs
Experience the ceramic process from design fabrication through to glazing and firing. Under the guidance of our experienced tutor watch your creations come to life.
Stained Glass
7-9pm €120 + €40 material costs
Learners will experience the creative process of creating stained glass ornaments from design to a finished product. No previous experience required.
Spanish Conversation Class (Advanced)
7-9pm €90
This course is for participants with spoken Spanish wishing to improve their skill. (Not suitable for beginners) Each week a different topic will be chosen for conversation, focusing on specific vocab or grammar each week. This course is an ideal follow-on course if you have completed the Spanish Improvers class with us previously.

WEDNESDAY EVENING CLASSES
Spanish for Improvers
7-9pm €90
Looking to improve your Spanish? This course is a natural follow-on if you have previously completed our Beginners Spanish classes or for anyone who has a basic beginners level of Spanish. Listening, reading, writing and a particular focus on speaking the topics of habits, interests, ordering food, neighbourhood and holidays.

Sewing for Beginners
7-9pm €120 *sewing machine required*
This course covers a wide range of learning on sewing machine safety, anatomy of a sewing machine – threading, sewing speed, different stitches and tension, sewing feet and maintenance of machine. Projects include pincushion, envelope cushion cover and toiletries bag with a zip. Further project will depend on the group ability.
Watercolour Painting
7-9pm €90 + materials explained on first night
This course will look at all the basics required to paint a successful picture. Learn amongst other things how to mix colour, use perspective effectively, lay a watercolour wash and create texture and special effects. Develop a variety of techniques that will help you start, or continue, your personal creative journey.
Beginner Circuit Training for Women
7-8pm €50
A joyful circuit training programme exclusively for women, suitable for all ages. This programme blends cardio, functional strength and core stability exercises to enhance metabolism, posture, body composition, mobility, core stability, and overall strength.
Stretch & Relax
8-9pm €50
Stretch and Relax offers a tranquil and slow-paced routine performed on the mat, focusing on enhancing mobility and flexibility while activating the parasympathetic nervous system, and helping our body and mind enter a state of relaxation. This gentle approach is perfect for individuals dealing with stress and seeking a mindful and soothing movement experience. Suitable for all fitness levels, the class aids in reducing muscle tension, improving posture, preventing sports injuries, enhancing joint range of motion, and fostering body-mind connection.

Understanding Special Needs 5N1709 QQI Level 5 Accredited Module 2024

The purpose of this award is to equip the learners with the knowledge, skills and competence required to work effectively, under direction in a special needs setting. This course provides an understanding of the context of special needs and the associated issues and approaches.

*€175 + €20 certification fee Leaners can apply for funding through the SOLAS Skills to Advance Initiative to cover the €175 cost of the course. Waivers in respect of the €20 further education and training award (certification) fees are available to social welfare recipients and/or medical card holders.

Please note

  • Fees must be paid in full before classes commence. These fees go directly to financing the courses. Fees are non refundable except where a course does not proceed due to low enrolment
  • Courses must have a minimum of 13 participants to run, otherwise the course will be cancelled. A full refund of fees will be inssued in this instance.
  • There is a minmum age requirment of 18 years to particiapte on any evening course.
  • KCETB reserves the right to cancel a course and refund fees if deemed necessary.
  • No classes will take place February Mid-term break, week starting Monday 12th February.
