Programme Description:

This is a one-year full-time programme that prepares students for entry into the security industry in positions such as static guarding, mobile security patrols, retail security and security for special events.  The course also facilitates progression to further and higher education.

Minimum Entry Requirements:

  • Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an interview.
  • Mature applicants will be assessed on their relevant work experience.
  • Garda Clearance is a requirement.

Progression:

  • The full QQI certificate may facilitate entry to a range of positions in the security industry including static guarding, mobile security patrols, retail security and security at special events.
  • Progression to further training for An Garda Síochána, the Defense Forces and the Prison Service.
  • Opportunities to progress to higher education in the fields of Legal Studies and Criminal Justice.

Costs:

Approximately €450 to cover the costs of examination fees, uniform, textbooks and optional extra courses.

Additional Training:

Occupational First Aid and manual handling training may be made available to learners.  Successful candidates will be entitled to apply for their PSA licence.
