Programme Description:

This is a one-year, full-time programme that prepares learners to work in a broad range of healthcare settings.

Minimum Entry Requirements:

  • Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an interview.
  • Mature applicants are welcome.
  • Garda Clearance is required.

Progression:

  • Opportunities to progress to further and higher level education in the fields of Social Studies and Social Care, Early Childhood Studies.
  • Care assistant positions in hospitals and nursing homes and in various community care settings.
  • Progression to Level 6 programme in Early Childhood Care and Education at Ormonde College of Further Education.

Costs:

Approximately €300 to cover the costs of textbooks and examination fees.

Additional Training:

Learners have the option of additional short courses in Fire Safety, Cardiac First Responder and Management of Actual or Potential Agression(MAPA) but must complete training in Manual and Patient Handling as part of the course (approximately €150).
