Hairdressing with Barbering Techniques (Level 5)

Programme Description:
This is a one-year, full-time programme that enables learners to obtain a range of practical and theoretical skills en route to attaining the QQI Level 5 Major Award in Hairdressing and Barbering as well as the Department of Education and Skills Junior Trade Certificate.

Minimum Entry Requirements:
- Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent.
- A related Level 4 qualification.
- Leaving Certificate Biology desirable but not essential.
- Successful completion of an interview.
- Mature applicants are welcome.
Progression:
- Successful candidates have the opportunity to progress to Salon Apprenticeships, hair retail outlets, product company representative, stylists positions.
- There are also opportunities to access further and higher education including progression to complete advanced qualifications at Level 6 at Ormonde College of Further Education.
Costs:
- Approximately €900 including the cost of uniform, kit, products, textbooks and examination fees. Full details of uniform and kit will be provided at induction.
- The kit purchased by students is of professional standard and designed for long-term usage.
Additional Courses:
- There are a number of short courses offered throughout the year which may, in some cases, entail further costs.
- Major industry companies visit the college to offer workshops in up-styling and colouring.
- A number of field trips and excursions will be organised throughout the academic year including visits to the Wella Academy, Dublin.
