Hairdressing with Barbering Techniques

Introduction

This is a new two year programme leading to QQI Level 5 and 6 awards as well as Junior and Senior Trade qualifications certified by the Department of Education and Skills.  The programme aims to provide learners with the skills and knowledge underpinning professional hairdressing and styling, that will enable the pursuit of opportunities in the hairdressing and barbering business.

Year Two

  • Postiche
  • Barbering Techniques
  • Customer Service
  • Senior Trade Examinations Tuition (Department of Education and Skills)

Learners will have the opportunity to avail of a number of short courses throughout training including gel nails, lash extensions and HD brows.

Entry Requirements

  • Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent,
  • Successful completion of an interview,
  • Mature applicants or those with prior learning in a related field are welcome to apply and their suitability will be assessed on qualifications and relevant previous work experience.

Progression/Career Prospects

Progression to Year Two (Level 6) of the programme is contingent on successful completion of Year One (Level 5).

Successful learners have the opportunity to progress to further training/apprenticeships or to employment opportunities in salon based hairdressing and barbering positions, self-employed enterprises, cruise ships as well as retail and company product representative positions.

Costs

Approximately €600 for each year of the programme, to include kits, materials and uniforms.  Additional short courses may incur further costs.
