Programme Description:

Upon successful completion students will have the relevant qualifications to work in the healthcare sector as healthcare assistants/support staff in hospitals, nursing homes or in the community.  Our students are provided with the professional skills and qualifications necessary to pursue a career in the emergency services.

Minimum Entry Requirements:

  • Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent.
  • A PASS grade in Biology is desirable.
  • Mature applicants are welcome.
  • Garda Clearance is required.
  • Relevant work experience is desirable.

Progression:

  • Progression onto further Paramedic training.
  • Opportunities to work in Care Assistant positions in hospitals, nursing homes and in various community care settings.
  • Opportunities to progress to further and higher education.

Costs:

  • Approximately €300 for textbooks and examination fees.
  • Approximately €600 to cover the cost of  additional training such as Ambulance Skills Training, Occupational First Aid and Manual and Patient Handling.

Additional Programmes:

Learners have the option of additional short courses in Fire Safety, Cardiac First Responder and Management of Actual or Potential Aggression (MAPA) but must complete training in Manual and Patient Handling as part of the course (approximately €150).
