Programme Description:

This is a one-year, full-time programme designed to enable learners to gain employment where a background in law is an asset.  A qualification in Legal Studies will also prepare learners for further study to pursue a career in the legal profession.  Students will have an opportunity to examine the principles of Irish Law and the Irish Legal System.  This course aims to equip learners with the confidence, skills and language to take the first steps into the area of law.

Minimum Entry Requirements:

  • Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an interview.
  • Mature applicants are welcome.

Progression:

  • Legal Assistant, Legal Researcher, Paralegal Work, Administrative Assistant, Citizens Advice and Human Rights Advocacy Agencies.
  • Successful candidates may progress to Higher Education programmes such as the following:
    • Waterford Institute of Technology: Bachelor of Laws (Hons), LL.B,
    • Carlow Institute of Technology: Bachelor of Laws (Hons),
    • University College Cork: Criminology, Law and Business,
    • University College Dublin: Law (BCL),
