Understanding Special Needs 5N1709 QQI Level 5 Accredited Module 2024
The purpose of this award is to equip the learners with the knowledge, skills and competence required to work effectively, under direction in a special needs setting. This course provides an understanding of the context of special needs and the associated issues and approaches.
*€175 + €20 certification fee Leaners can apply for funding through the SOLAS Skills to Advance Initiative to cover the €175 cost of the course. Waivers in respect of the €20 further education and training award (certification) fees are available to social welfare recipients and/or medical card holders.

MONDAY EVENING CLASSES (Ormonde Campus) |

Spanish for Beginners 7-9pm €90 Learn a new language in a relaxed atmosphere. This course will provide you with the skills to understand and use everyday expressions and basic phrases, the classes involve a combination of listening, reading, and writing with the main focus on conversational Spanish. Introduction to Digital Photography 7-9pm €90 *SRL Camera required* This course is suited for anyone who has a SRL camera and wishes to know more about the features of the camera with tips for taking good photographs. Learn about composition, exposure and improve your portraits, landscapes, still life photographs. |
Sewing for Dressmaking (not suitable for beginners) 7-9pm €120 *sewing machine required* This course is suitable for those who have previously completed the Sewing for Beginners course or are proficient in using their sewing machine. The course will cover taking accurate body measurements, reading, understanding and working with a commercial dressmaking pattern. Learners will learn to use patterns to create an item of clothing. |
Ballroom and Latin Social Dancing 7-8:30pm €70 *NO partner needed to participate in this class* An introduction to Ballroom and Latin dance in an enjoyable atmosphere. This new course is a great opportunity to make new friends, have a fun workout and improve your dancing skills in a relaxed environment. |
Advanced Watercolour Painting 7-9pm €90 This course is ideal for anyone who completed the introduction or advanced course previously. It is suited for people who know the basics of watercolour painting and wish to develop their creativity, techniques, skill, and knowledge. |
Introduction to Indian Head massage 7-9pm €90 + €10 material costs Indian head massage is a wonderful treatment for stress, neck and shoulder tension, headaches, and sinusitis. It also improves hair and scalp condition. Learn how to complete this seated routine massaging acupressure points along the head, neck, and shoulders. |
Introduction to Skincare and Makeup 7-9pm €90 + €20 material costs This course is suitable for all age groups (>18) and will be tailored to suit the demographics of the group. Learn how to look after your skin, identify products and routines to suit your skin type. Learn beauty tips and techniques to achieve a professional looking makeup. |
Introduction to Manicure and Pedicure 7-9pm €90 + €20 material costs Learn about how to treat your hands and feet, learn all the basic techniques to look after your nails and skin, how to apply nail colour to achieve long lasting results. |
Introduction to DJing and Live Sound 7-9pm €90 This course is aimed at students that wish to pursue a career as a DJ. This course will introduce students to the roles and challenges of being a DJ on the Irish music scene, and the many different skill sets required in order to be successful. |

Stained Glass 7-9pm €120 + €40 material costs Learners will experience the creative process of creating stained glass ornaments from design to a finished product. No previous experience required. |
Spanish Conversation Class (Advanced) 7-9pm €90 This course is for participants with spoken Spanish wishing to improve their skill. (Not suitable for beginners) Each week a different topic will be chosen for conversation, focusing on specific vocab or grammar each week. This course is an ideal follow-on course if you have completed the Spanish Improvers class with us previously. Introduction to Watercolour Painting 7-9pm €90 + materials explained on first night An introduction to watercolour painting looking at all the basics required to paint a successful picture. Learn amongst other things how to mix colour, use perspective effectively, lay a watercolour wash and create texture and special effects. Develop a variety of techniques that will help you start, or continue, your personal creative journey |

Listening, reading, writing and a particular focus on speaking the topics of habits, interests, ordering food, neighbourhood and holidays. Sewing for Beginners 7-9pm €120 *sewing machine required* This course covers a wide range of learning on sewing machine safety, anatomy of a sewing machine – threading, sewing speed, different stitches and tension, sewing feet and maintenance of machine. Projects may include pincushion, envelope cushion cover, toiletries bag with a zip etc depending on the group ability. |
Beginner Circuit Training for Women 7-8pm €50 A joyful, female-only exercise programme that is suitable for anyone including beginners, postnatal mums, and 40+ women. It combines cardio and functional strength exercises to improve metabolism, posture, body composition, mobility, core stability and overall strength. |
Stretch & Core 8-9pm €50 This is a mat based routine that improves mobility, core stability and flexibility. The class is suitable for all fitness levels and can reduce muscle tension, prevent sports injuries, improve joint range of motion, enhance co-ordination, and increase circulation and energy levels. |

Return to Education preparation course 7-9pm €90 This course is designed as an introductory course to help anyone considering returning to a formal education setting. The aim is to provide a classroom experience in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere to elevate any anxieties and provide support to help participants in the next step of the journey in returning to education. |
Music Production 7-9pm €90 The key objective of this course is to offer students an entry level insight into the often elusive world of music production, with the sole aim of arming students with a level of knowledge which will allow them to accurately decide whether or not they wish to study this topic at a higher level. A well rounded, multi-platform approach is one of the key elements to this course with students being offered an insight into many of the roles involved in the career of a music producer and music production as a whole. |
Please note
- There is a minmum age requirment of 18 years to particiapte on any evening course.
- Fees must be paid in full before classes commence. These fees go directly to financing the courses. Fees are non refundable except where a course does not proceed due to low enrolment
- Courses must have a minimum of 13 participants to run, otherwise the course will be cancelled. A full refund of fees will be inssued in this instance.
- KCETB reserves the right to cancel a course and refund fees if deemed necessary.
- No classes will take place October Mid-term break, week starting Monday 28th October.
